1. Federal Firearms License (FFL) Compliance
All firearms sold by Urban Gun Store are shipped only to Federal Firearms License (FFL) holders, as required by the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C. § 921 et seq.).
How It Works:
- During checkout, customers must select or provide contact details for an FFL dealer in their area.
- We will verify the dealer’s license before shipping.
- Once the firearm arrives, the customer completes the Form 4473 and NICS background check at the dealer’s location.
- The firearm is transferred only after successful background clearance.
Important: Firearms cannot be shipped directly to your home or business address unless you are an FFL holder.
2. Federal Law Requirements
Under federal law, purchasers must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be at least 21 years old to purchase a handgun or receiver/frame.
- Be at least 18 years old to purchase a rifle or shotgun.
- Be legally allowed to own or possess firearms under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), meaning you are:
- Not a convicted felon,
- Not a fugitive from justice,
- Not an unlawful user of controlled substances,
- Not adjudicated as mentally incompetent,
- Not dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces,
- Not subject to restraining orders for domestic violence, and
- Not convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence.
Any attempt to purchase a firearm while prohibited under federal law is a felony offense.
3. Background Checks (NICS)
All firearm purchases require a background check conducted by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) or a state equivalent.
- Background checks are performed by the receiving FFL dealer at the time of transfer.
- Urban Gun Store does not conduct NICS checks directly.
- Firearms will not be transferred to a buyer until the background check is approved.
- If the background check is denied, the order will be returned to Urban Gun Store in accordance with our Return & Refund Policy.
4. State and Local Regulations
Firearm and ammunition laws vary widely by state and locality.
It is the customer’s responsibility to know and comply with all applicable laws in their state before purchasing.
Common State-Specific Restrictions
Urban Gun Store complies with shipping restrictions and will not ship firearms, magazines, or ammunition to the following:
- California (certain firearms and magazines restricted; CA-compliant models only)
- New York City, NY
- Washington, D.C.
- Chicago, IL
- Massachusetts (restricted firearm models)
- New Jersey (magazine capacity and ammo restrictions)
- Connecticut (certain semi-auto rifles restricted)
- Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories (ammunition cannot be shipped)
We reserve the right to cancel any order that violates state or local law.
5. Age Verification and Identification
Before fulfilling any firearm or ammunition order, we may request:
- A valid government-issued photo ID to confirm age and residency.
- FFL information for firearm shipments.
- Additional documentation as required by your state (e.g., firearm purchase permits or FOID cards).
Failure to provide the required documentation within 5 business days may result in order cancellation.
6. Ammunition Sales and Shipping
Federal law requires buyers of ammunition to:
- Be at least 18 years old for rifle or shotgun ammunition, and
- Be at least 21 years old for handgun ammunition.
Ammunition cannot be shipped:
- To P.O. boxes,
- To addresses in restricted states, or
- Outside the United States.
All ammunition shipments require an adult signature (21+) upon delivery.
7. Export and International Orders
Urban Gun Store does not export firearms, ammunition, or accessories outside the United States.
International orders will be canceled and refunded if placed through our website.
Export of any firearm or related item without proper licensing violates U.S. export control laws (ITAR & EAR).
8. Record Keeping and Traceability
As required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Urban Gun Store maintains all necessary sales, shipping, and compliance records in accordance with:
- 27 CFR Part 478 (Commerce in Firearms and Ammunition)
- 27 CFR Part 479 (Machine Guns, Destructive Devices, and Certain Other Firearms)
We cooperate fully with law enforcement and ATF trace requests as required by law.
9. Responsibility and Safe Ownership
Urban Gun Store promotes responsible firearm ownership and handling.
We strongly encourage:
- Completing certified firearms safety training,
- Using trigger locks or safes for storage,
- Keeping firearms out of reach of minors and unauthorized persons, and
- Regular maintenance and proper handling practices.
